Thanksgiving is right around the corner!
There are so many ways we love getting our campers involved in thankfulness, and here’s how you can too!
Thankfulness Wreath
This is a craft that can be hung on your door this fall. It is a great visual for your child to see everything they are thankful for and brighten your home with gratitude!
What you’ll need:
- Red, Orange, Yellow, and Brown Construction Paper
- Glue
- String
- Marker
How to:
- Cut out leaves using the construction paper of different sizes, shape, and color
- Using the brown construction paper, create a “wreath shape” and glue the string to the back
- On each of the leaves, have your child write one thing they are thankful for
- Glue the leaves onto the wreath and watch it take shape!

Thank You Cards
Your child can practice their letter skills with this fun activity. With an envelope, paper, and some pens or markers, have your child write a letter to someone they admire. This is a great way for them to say “thank you” to someone special in their life! Bonus– If they are writing to someone far away, grab a festive stamp and send it to them for a nice surprise!

Engage in our Giving Tree Year-Round
At Camp Sonshine, we visit various countries and serve local communities. During the summer, our campers write letters to different locations that we visit. Have your children take part in this as well! These letters get sent straight to campers just like them all around the world. This January, we will be going to South Africa and would love support however that may be.

Create a Gratitude Jar
Another fun craft for the whole family to do! Every time you see something you’re thankful for, write it on a piece of paper. Then, fold it up and place it into your Gratitude Jar! Over time, watch as the gratitude jar grows and grows. When it gets full, take them out, think back on all that you are grateful for, and start another one!
Daily Gratitude Reflection
It’s easy to get caught up in the busy season of fall. From running around to football practice one day and a dance recital the next, sometimes it is nice to stop and remember the little things. Before bed each night, you and your kid(s) can sit together and list three things they’re thankful for. Not only is it a great way to recap the day, but it’s also a great opportunity to remember all the great things that may happen around you.
If you participate in any of these fun activities on how to teach your children about thankfulness, snap a pic and send it to us! We would love to see all the ways your family participates in giving thanks.
