Everybody knows that summer camp is a ton of fun. What you may not know is that summer camp also teaches kids essential life skills to help them grow into successful adults. We’ve compiled a list of just a few of the life skills your child can develop at summer camp.
Skills Kids Learn at Summer Camp
Independence – At camp, kids learn to make decisions for themselves without input from their parents. When they do, they gain the confidence to trust their own decision-making abilities. As they get older, this confidence in their personal moral compass can help them resist peer-pressure, stand up for others, and make good choices.
Courage – New things can be scary. The fear of failure is a huge stumbling block, for adults and children alike. Camp offers kids the chance to try new things in an environment where they have permission to fail, something they don’t often get in school where they will be graded on their performance.
Sense of Community – Camp creates a new community for kids. A community in which they are responsible for themselves and their behavior without parents acting as rule enforcers. Additionally, at camp kids have the opportunity to meet kids outside of their family social circles – from different areas and backgrounds. Through meeting different types of people, children are able to learn more about others, which can aid in the development of compassion for others.
Camp provides children the opportunity to learn and grow outside on their own within a safe environment. The skills they learn and friends will last a lifetime.
