This past month, our Camp Sonshine team was able to minister in South Africa through the Global Outreach program. The team kicked off the year in Capetown, South Africa running a day camp at a local village in an impoverished area. The children that attended came from all over the neighborhood and brought their younger siblings and friends for a day filled with fun.
The second week took place at a sleep away camp. Our leaders were placed with certain age groups for the resident camp and had an even greater opportunity to show God’s love! Two of our counselors, Kumam and Katie, had very quiet girls who were hesitant to open up. After one of the camp skits, Katie and Kumam were very intentional in debriefing with their girls and they all shared more about their lives. This was impacting not only to the girls because they trusted the counselors and felt understood, but it also provided confirmation to Katie and Kumam that what they were doing was making a real difference.
The camp’s theme was “God’s Treasure”. It was highly immersive because games and lessons were all tied to this theme. By the end of the week, the children knew that God’s word is the ultimate treasure! Not only that but those who served left feeling refreshed and reminded of God’s purpose for their life!
We want to thank everyone for their support in helping make this possible. If you would like to get more information on donating or participating in our global outreach program, check out our website https://campsonshine.org/go/ or send us an email at globaloutreach@campsonshine.org
