To Our Camp Sonshine Family,
Our incredible team had the most amazing time visiting Guatemala this March. We partnered with Camp Sonshine Florida to bring joy and love to the children of Prince of Peace Home for Girls. After many years of postponing our trip due to Covid-19, we were finally able to reconnect and reunite with old and new friends.
We had the privilege of running a week-long camp for the 30 girls currently living at the orphanage.
During camp, the girls enjoyed a variety of activities, from bracelet and flower making to basketball, soccer, and even a water fight. They loved every moment, and their joy was both contagious and heartwarming. Meanwhile, our team learned just as much—picking up new games and even new hairstyles from the girls!
The theme of the week was ‘FAITH’.
To demonstrate what faith looks like, our team performed Bible skits each day. Featuring our mascot, “Faith Girl,” we showed how each character trusted God—and how the girls can too. A camp favorite was the FAITH song, followed by making bead bracelets spelling out FAITH as a reminder that they can carry their faith wherever they go.
We are so incredibly grateful to have learned so much about the Prince of Peace girls; their stories of how they came to the home and their dreams and aspirations.
Hearing from the staff of Prince of Peace reminded us of the vital role they play in the lives of these girls, and we are truly grateful for their insights. It was a blessing to see each team member build unique and meaningful connections with every girl at the home. We spent the final camp night gathered around a bonfire and enjoying a large party with the girls to celebrate and say goodbye.
Outside of facilitating the week-long camp, our team was also able to have fun sightseeing in Antigua. From exploring the markets to having breakfast atop a mountain with a view of Guatemala’s volcanoes.
