If your child will be attending summer camp, there’s a number of ways you can make their transition to camp an easier one. From talking about camp before the season begins to making sure they have any supplies they might need, getting ready for camp can be an exciting time. At Camp Sonshine, we know that your child will have a wonderful experience. As summer approaches, it’s time to get them excited about the adventures ahead.
1. Talk About Camp
The first way to help your child get ready for summer camp is to talk about it. Your child may have many questions about camp, and you should be ready to answer most of their questions. If they want to know what happens during the day, look up the schedule so that you are aware of the activities.
2. Make Sure Lunches are Allergy Safe
On the first day of camp and throughout the summer, it’s important to prepare allergy safe lunches for your children. While your child may not have any food allergies, it is likely that children that are attending camp do. The most popular allergen to avoid is peanuts, so get your child used to lunches without peanut butter.
3. Pack the Sunblock
Before sending your child off to have fun in the sun, don’t forget to pack the sunblock! Apply sunblock before they reach camp and we’ll make sure they reapply during the day. Remember, safety first!
4. Introduce Your Child to Camp Leaders
If your child is shy, take the time to introduce your child to the camp leaders on the first day. A few minutes of your time will be worth it to get your child to feel comfortable on their first day of summer camp.
5. Remind Your Children to Have Fun
When your child is nervous about summer camp, remind them that this is supposed to be a fun experience. Let them know that there are many adventures that await them.
