Wilderness Adventures Specialty Camp

for grades completed: 3rd + 4th | 5th + 6th | 7th - 9th

Wilderness Adventures specializes in exciting outdoor adventures and creative projects for 3rd – 9th grade children. We purposefully plan and facilitate the program to allow campers to develop a greater appreciation for nature, to build relational skills and to see God through His creation. We accomplish this through a program that provides each camper with a safe environment where he/she can explore, create, and develop, both personally and as a member of his or her group. Together they will tackle the many exciting activities and adventures found in the wilderness. It is our desire that campers come away from their time at Wilderness Adventures with greater confidence and better-developed outdoor skills.

Our drop-off and pick-up are located at Ednor Park, only minutes away from the Silver Spring location. This allows us the opportunity to utilize the same offices and benefit from the convenience of Camp Sonshine’s extensive bus transportation service.

Wilderness Explorations
Campers who have completed 3rd and 4th grades

These young explorers will have many opportunities to satisfy their curiosity if they choose to answer the call of the wild. Campers will learn the basics of archery, building a fort, keeping an off-road go-kart on the track, and what it takes to build a safe campfire.  Hiking, exploring the forest and creeks, conquering our climbing wall and the many other adventures found at Wilderness Adventures will create memories for these campers that will last a lifetime. Our elective options, weekly field trips and regular pool trips keep things exciting, as do the optional Overnighters where campers will get to eat outdoors and sleep out under the stars. Campers are grouped by grade and gender.

Wilderness Expeditions
Campers who have completed 5th and 6th grades

This program is for campers who desire an adventure. Campers will have plenty of opportunity for adventure as they build forts, make campfires, and explore the forest and its streams.  Some of the other activities that campers will get to try are archery, off-road go-karts, climbing wall, outdoor cooking, weekly field trips, multiple trips to the pool, specialiazed electives, and various ropes course elements.

The optional Overnighter gives campers the opportunity to bond with their counselor and group as they cook their dinners over the fire and sleep under the stars as a group. Campers are grouped by grade and gender.

Wilderness Excursions
Campers who have completed 7th through 9th grades

This program has limited spaces, due in part, to the specialized activities which campers will be experiencing. No previous experience is necessary, however campers who enjoy the opportunity to take on a challenge and to work together as a group will absolutely love what Wilderness Excursions has to offer.
Some of our activities include, but are not limited to: whitewater rafting, canoeing, tubing, swimming, hiking, go-karts, archery, climbing wall, building projects, high ropes challenges, scavenger hunts, outdoor cooking, fire building, and outdoor sports.

Along with these daytime activities, the Overnighter (included in tuition fees) on the first Thursday of each session will allow campers to grow as a team as they set-up their campsite, prepare their dinner over an open fire and camp out under the stars.

*Please be sure both you and your child sign the conduct agreement in the application, and return it to Camp Sonshine. We require a signed conduct agreement for each child currently in 6th grade or above.
